Welcome to Box2, The Great Tit Box 2003 This is the story of 2003 nesting season as it happend Page 1 of 2 |
Friday 21st February 2003 - Hello and wleocme back to a new start and a hole new year in box2!! As yet I have not had any birds inside the next box but its still early! Keep on coming back to this page for updates!
Saturday 1st March 2003 -This morning I saw the first blue tit in box2! I have not yet put any picture up but they are on there way.
Wednesday
5th March 2003 -
The
weather over the last few days has not been very good with rain and some strong
winds coming up from the south. I have only seen a few visits to the blue tit
box lately and it only seems to be in the morning around 900am.
Friday
7th March 2003 -
Ones more a very cold start to the day with rain and strong
winds, the blue tits has made a few visits to the box but not really any thing
to write home about.
As the day came to an end there were fewer visits. I
have not got any thing roosting as yet but will keep you all posted!
Thursday 13th March 2003 -This morning the blue tits came in with a little bit of nesting material shuffled it about a little bit then took it all out. I have seen this happen every nesting season with them I do not know why they do this but it must mean something.
Tuesday
18th March 2003 - With warm weather with us for the moment I have seen the
blue tits going in and out of the nesting box but they do not seem to stay very
long. As yet I have not had any thing roosting. They will bring in moss and then
take it out. I think they do this as they are trying to attract a mate.
I myself over the years have found out that they do not tend to start to build there nests until April but I may well be proved otherwise!
Monday
24th March 2003 - To day it was been a really nice warm spring day with a
lot of visits to the bird box. From the picture you can see they have been playing
about with the nesting materials but as soon as they came in with it they would
take it out. More updates soon!
Tuiesday
8th April 2003: When I came back from collage I took a look in the blue tits
box and saw that they have been bring in a lot more nesting peaces. Over the last
week the weather has been really nice with a lot of sun I think this has given
the blue tits a bit of a kick to get them going. More updates soon.......
Thursday 18th April 2003:- With the temp just about reaching 10c to day and with a cold wind this has not put are blue tits off at all. I have been watching them off and on all day and they seem still very much up to speed with nest building. At the moment they are still working on the floor of the nest and getting it just how they would like it. They will come in with moss and then take bits out. I think that are in some way fussier than us humans!

Saturday
19th April 2003: Loads of visits to the nest box this afternoon both Mum and
Dad have been bring a lot of very soft feathers and moss for the nest cup. They
have made most of the nest they are just finishing off the nest cup which should
not be to long now.
The
weather to day has not been very good with strong winds and a little bit of rain.
I have seen the weather forecast for the next few days and its not looking very
good. But they do say it should get better by the middle of next week.
Diary continues...........On Page 2
