Welcome to Box2 2002 This is the story of 2002 nesting season as it happend |
Wednesday 6th February 2002:
Over the last few days there has been severe winds and very heavy rainfall. When I went to turn on my bird box cameras this morning there was on picture.
Due to the strong winds it has moved the camera's causing the wires to come lose. When the weather has settled down I will be fixing this problem but I just hope it will not be to late for the nesting season!
Monday 11th February 2002:
Over the weekend I have been fixing my cameras in both of my nesting boxes. It will take a few days for the smell of humans to go from the boxes.
Friday 8th March 2002:
Over the last few weeks the blue tits have been very active going in and out of the nest box. There has even been some moss that has been brought into the box. At the moment in time the camera in the nest box is out of action but as soon as its up and running I will be putting the pictures onto my web site.
Saturday 16th March 2002
This morning and late afternoon I have seen a lot of visits from the birds into the box. At one point both male and female were in the nest box. They both keep on bringing in very small peaces of moss into the box and then scratching about then tacking some of the moss out. I will be putting some pictures on this page as soon as I can.
Sunday 24th March 2002
Ones more this morning I have seen a lot of activity from the blue tits going in and out of the box bringing a few bits of moss in.
Monday 1st April 2002
Over the last few days I have seen the birds going in and out with large pieces of nesting materail. There is moss now covering most of the bottom of the nest box. To day the weather has not been good for are birds in box2 as there has been rain and wind all day.(Pictures going soon as I can get the camera working)
Friday 5th April 2002
I have not seen that much of the blue tits the passed few days. She will roost at night time and may be just a few visit to the box with some more dry moss.(More updates soon)
Monday 8th April 2002:
This is the first picture of inside box2 this year! I am pleased to say that my camera is back with us and ready to get all the snaps we need! As you can see Mum and Dad have been very busy the last few days with building the nest. In the next week or so they should start work on the nest cup its self. To day has been nice and warm but to my surprise there has not been very many visits to the box at all. More pictures coming soon....
Wednesday 10th April 2002: One more nice picture of inside the box. To get this image I had to get my camera and go up the ladder to get this! Its not something I will all ways be doing as this can some times put the birds off. As for to day there has not been that many visits into the box. Mum has been bringing in soft nesting material for the nest cup. She first came into the box early this morning at about 7:23am for a while and then left. Last visit to night was just before sun down at about 7ish.
Friday 12th April 2002: Ones more the birds have been working very hard on the nest cup to day. Its all very slow progress but they will get there soon. To night I have got Mum roosting in the box for the first time while nesting has begun.
Saturday 20th April 2002: GOOD NEWS! The very first egg of this years blue tits nesting in box2 is here!!!
I will be putting on pictures when a few more eggs. Over the next few days! From now on an egg should appear every morning. Mum has been coming back to the box just to check all is ok with the egg she will spend a few moments doing some housework or should that be box work then she will be off.
Thursday 25th April 2002:
This morning I switch on my bird box camera and I saw six eggs now. As Mum is not yet sitting on them that would normally mean more to come!! (Pictures coming soon)
Monday 6th May 2002: As its now may I do not think we will be having any great tits in box1 this year. So we will have to wait till next year to see if any thing comes back! As the birds in box2 its all going well there are now 9 eggs and mum is sitting tigh
Saturday 11th May 2002: Hatching day!!!!!! I have just got back from work at 100pm and had a look at my bird box camera and saw that 2 of the chicks had hatched. Mum has been sitting on them keeping them nice and warm while Dad has been out looking for food for Mum and the chicks. More updates soon
Tuesday 14th May 2002
Over the last few days its all been go go go! With the chicks hatching Mum and not for getting Dad have been back and forth with food for there young.
Mum every so often will have a 5-minute brake and sit on the chicks to keep them nice and warm then she will be straight back to finding food for them. From what I can see on the TV screen all of them are out apart from one egg that is still not showing any signs of hatching. I would think f it dos not Mum will soon remove it out from the nest box. Only time will tell.
Tuesday 11th June 2002 - Over the last weeks I have been very busy with collage and did not have the time to update my web site on the birds in box2. Next year I should have more time to update these pages. Also next year I should be putting up a FULL COULER camera. As for this year I am very pleased to say that all the chicks fledged and I will be back in 2003 with a whole new episode!
Diary continues....... Next year (2003)
